ANSONIA – Seniors from Ansonia follow tradition of Senior pranks by decorating the outside of the school with bras. Some parents were outraged and commented that the school administration condoned this behavior. Witnesses said they saw female students wearing bras outside over their shirts and waving some in the air. A comment was made that it felt like a “strip club” and they were insulted by this display.

H1N1 claims Darke County native

Monday, November 9th, 2009

I was extremely sad when I learned today that Michael Thornsberry, Versailles graduate and former Ansonia police chief, passed away due to complications from a combination of H1N1 and pneumonia.  He was only 38.

My heart goes out to his wife, Michelle, and their two daughters, as well as the rest of his family and friends.  While I didn’t know Mike or his family personally, my grandpa knew Mike well.  My grandpa was the mayor of Ansonia when Mike was sworn-in as police chief.  Grandpa always spoke fondly of Mike, and I know that he shares in my condolences to the family as well.

Grandpa was extremely proud to tell me that he performed the wedding ceremony for Mike and Michelle, one of the few marriages that my grandpa did in his time as mayor.

While I don’t know much about Mike’s life or his death, I do know this:  He will be missed by many people whose lives he touched over the course of his career as a law enforcement officer.

Please keep the Thornsberry family in your thoughts and prayers…

2009 Ansonia Tigers

2009 Ansonia Tigers

This Friday night the Ansonia Tigers go for their first undefeated season. The 9-0 Tigers will travel to Miami East who are 8-1. This is a HUGE game with payoff implications for both programs. I am stoked that I get to be part of the event as I will be assisting our Sports Writer Amanda Rodeheffer with photos and videos from the game. Hopefully I will get to witness first-hand, Ansonia complete their season with a big fat “0″ in the loss column. GO TIGERS!

What a great interview with a great coach!

I mean this in the least-biased way possible…

Go Tigers!!! Beat those Hawks!!! (And kudos to Don Selanders for this awesome photo!)

Go Tigers!!! Beat those Hawks!!! (And kudos to Don Selanders for this awesome photo!)

Tomorrow night, my high school Alma Mater, the Ansonia Tigers, will once again take on their biggest rival of all-time, the Mississinawa Valley Black Hawks, for yet another nail-biting football game, this time on MV’s home turf.

And no, I will not be there.

Yes, I, Amanda Rodeheffer, Ansonia-born-and-bred, will not be in attendance at what could be the biggest Ansonia-MV showdown ever.

And all I have to say is, thank goodness!!!

Every time I go to “The Game” as I’m going to call it, I nearly have a heart attack!  No lead is ever big enough to slow my rapidly beating heart as the Tigers battle it out against the Hawks.  From the time I was in high school (since I can’t seem to remember back any further than that… dang, I’m getting old), I haven’t ever been to a stress-free Ansonia-MV game.  Come to think of it, I don’t think one has ever taken place.  But this year will be even more stressful than ever.

Why you ask?  (Even though I’m pretty sure most of you already know…)

This year, Ansonia is undefeated thus far, so the stakes are already high.  But on top of that, MV is 4-1 this season and looking better than ever. And if that wasn’t enough, Ansonia is putting their 31-year MV football winning streak on the line again.

It’s scary!

So you Tigers fans who are heading to MV tomorrow night (which will likely be the whole town), cheer extra loud for me.  Because my poor heart and I will be in the safe confines of the Bradford press box, covering the Roaders Homecoming game against Arcanum.

But I’ll still be singing “Cause we’re gonna beat the Black Hawks toniiiiight!” in my head.  Go Tigers!
