WISH OF A LIFETIME GRANTED FOR GREENVILLE SR. CITIZEN

June 8th, 2012 | by advocate360 |

Phyllis Aukerman, 81, a current resident of Sterling House of Greenville, worried she wouldn’t get to see her sister, Margeurite Bird, again. Bird’s health has confined her to a nursing home in Cedar Park, Texas. Aukerman’s Wish of a Lifetime was to visit Bird, whom she hadn’t seen since 2009.

On April 26, Aukerman’s dream came true! Accompanied by her daughter, Tammy Fraley, she received an all expense paid trip to Cedar Park, Texas.

The sisters grew up on a farm in Ansonia and are the daughters of the late William and Ethel Bryson. They always enjoyed spending time together and got the opportunity to reminisce about days past. As they looked through old family photos.

“This visit has made me 30 years younger,” commented Bird.

Aukerman’s wish was granted thanks to Brookdale Senior Living and Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime, a nonprofit organization dedicated to granting life-enriching wishes to older Americans. To request her wish, Aukerman filled out a wish application explaining an experience she would like to have fulfilled and how that experience relates to one or more dimensions of Brookdale’s Optimum Life® platform. Optimum Life cultivates whole-person wellness through fulfillment in the six key dimensions: purposeful, emotional, physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual.

Both Brookdale and Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime provide a helping hand in making some of the dreams of Brookdale’s residents come true. Residents at Brookdale Senior Living communities nationwide are invited to share and submit their wishes to Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime at www.seniorwish.org.

Together, the partnership between Brookdale and Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime granted 191 wishes in 2011.
