KATHY BEAM’S RESIGNATION LETTER FROM PARK BOARD

January 7th, 2013 | by advocate360 |

Dear Mayor Bowers,

I HAVE BEEN VOLUNTEERING FOR OUR CITY a very long time; for our youth in this community as well as in the state of Ohio. I resent that some in your administration continue to question my ability, my passion and my experience to my position on the park board.  In accordance with the ORC, we are to have a full three member board and for the past three months, we have been at a two member board. I have had many people express interest in coming onto the park board, however, for one reason or another; no contact was made from you. Bringing Ms. Baker on was just as she stated to council at the last meeting, a liaison between the park board and council… To me that takes a position from a lifelong citizen that wants to be a part of the board. If Ms. Baker wanted to be a liaison, then have council appoint that, or just simply come to a meeting.  I have been volunteering for over 25 years and have always worked on a team, this time, I cannot see a team working in the future. With that being said, I don’t want or need people that have personal agendas and continuing to question the citizens of this community that give back so much. Therefore, I am resigning my position on the park board effective immediately. It has truly been an honor to serve this community.

Kathy Beam
Ohio Revised Code
755.02 Board of park commissioners.
If a majority of the electors voting at an election under section 755.01 of the Revised Code vote in favor of the appointment of a board of park commissioners, the mayor shall immediately appoint three electors of the city as members of such board, to be known as the “board of park commissioners.” Such members shall be appointed for terms of one, two, and three years, respectively, and their successors shall be appointed for terms of three years. In case of the death or resignation of a member of such board, the mayor shall immediately appoint a successor to fill the vacancy for the unexpired term. The members of the board shall serve without compensation. The mayor may remove, with the consent of a majority of those elected to the legislative authority of the city, any member of such board for incompetency or official misconduct.

This is exactly why this city is going to crap! Treating the people of the city like this is the reason it will be years before there’s a new school. If all these officials could get over their power tripping egos long enough to do what is best for the city and the citizens, then maybe we can get what the city and citizens need! Why go to meetings because nobody listens! They will only do what they want and how they want it!

Kathy I would like to thank you for all you have done for this community whether it be in baseball or on the park board you have always tried to do what was best. The city is losing a great person. I just wish the city would get their act together and do what is right for the community. Its sad when there is so many egos involved this could be a great town again if some of the people would gets their heads where they are supposed to be. Once again thanks for everything you have done.
